Record Store’s Day
Way back in 80s when music cassettes came in India, it was a favourite corner of home where music lovers use to store
their trove of music. Music record labels like Sony, BMG Crescendo, TDK
came to India. Indian giants like HMV, Venus, Tips and T-series have made their
mark on customers.
The craze of Juke Box music of 70s returned in late 90s. The culture of
shopping malls got established in India. The chain of shops and music business
got flourished by Planet M, Crossroads, Life Style and many other mega malls
who catered music through Cassette and CD, DVDs.
The new millennium came up with the threat of piracy and MP3 format of
sound recording. The very habit of buying cassette or CD is replaced by mp3
download or a pen drive full of music.
Rhythm House a leading music shop of Mumbai has closed in February this
year. Mehmood Curmally the owner of Rhythm house of Mumbai is a music lover,
curator and singer as well. Sunday afternoon there use to impromptu jam for all
music lovers. Mihir Joshi, Anuradha Pal and Rajeev Raja have composed a song
called, ‘ Rhythm House Blues’. If you are a hardcore music lover then you will
find this song.
The end of Rhythm House also men the retail market of music are also over.
The world of music industry celebrates every 3rd Saturday of every April. This
year it is 16 April. This year Metallica will be releasing their album Liberte,
Egalite, Fraternite in Paris. This year 'Record Store Day' is
supported with a film ‘The Smart Studio Story’ which supplements the same
cause. ‘The Smart Studio Story’ film is about recording studio of Wisconsin US.
This studio is owned by Butch Vig and Steve Marker their studio produced bands
such as The Smashing Pumpkin, Nirvana, Garbage, Shirley Manson and many more.
