Jai Bhumata Brigade
Lately Bhumata Brigade was in headlines for their noble fight for equal for
women in Hindu shrines. Print and electronic media covered the whole event
honestly as it is the third pillar of democracy but the ground level self
declared and much hyped holy babas have opposed the entry of women in
restricted areas.
The religion is a philosophy, it is made to practice. Here we forget one
thing, any philosophy is perfect for a particular time and not always. Over a
period of time it needs some amendments. Today when we live with smart phones
and communicate on Internet how we can follow the age old rules like do not
cross the river, do not travel in night. Do not send girls for education or do
not allow women to shrines.
I find this age old customs need to change. I am pleased to see,
someone is fighting for women’s equal rights. In last 50 years we had
just one lady PM and today we have just 2 CM, we had 2CM in past. 1.25 million
Population women are often cornered.
2012 Delhi rape case challenged the security for women in town. It is
a matter of a grave concern. A woman after her birth does house duties and
after marriage take care of home, work in office to meet the two ends of life.
In old age the selfish kids sideline the mother for their privacy.
In Indian male chauvinistic society, many people are criticizing Bhumata
Brigade about their stand in society. Why they have challenged the old
beliefs? Bhumata Brigade is just the beginning, now people have started asking
question and analyzing the existing practices. I read it as a new beginning of
change.
A matured society always ask question and analyze the rituals. I wish many
will come in coming years to raise questions.
